AutoCAD Drafting Takes Off
AutoCAD drafting can be used for multiple purposes and therefore it has brought revolutionary change in the computer aided design and drafting process, making it faster and accurate.
Computer-aided design (CAD) has brought about a revolutionary change in the drafting process, making it faster and accurate. Before computers came on to the scene, drafting had to be done manually, which was not only time-consuming, but prone to errors as well.
One of the most common tools used for CAD drafting has been AutoCAD, developed by the California-based Autodesk Ltd. AutoCAD drafting has become commonplace today, bringing about a revolutionary change in the field of architectural drawing.
Auto CAD drafting is used for a variety of purposes – for tools and machinery used to make components, for buildings, industrial structures like hospitals and factories etc. CAD used to mean only automated drafting. But now it includes three-dimensional modeling and computer-simulated operation of the model.
AutoCAD has become an important tool in architectural design and drafting industry. Autodesk has in fact developed AutoCAD Architecture specifically for architectural CAD drafting. It enables architectural designers to draft the elevations, floor plans, cross-sections, walls, doors and windows in 3D. The data can be programmed to represent specific architectural products sold in the construction industry, or extracted into a data file for pricing, materials estimation, and other values related to the objects represented.
CAD drafting can be done in either 2D or 3D. CAD software packages offer 2D vector-based drafting or 3D solid and surface modelers. They also allow rotations in three dimensions, which mean that an object can be viewed from any angle, even from the inside.
There are many producers of the lower-end 2D systems, including a number of free and open source programs. 3D wireframe is an extension of 2D drafting. Each line has to be manually inserted into the drawing. The final product has no mass properties associated with it and cannot have features directly added to it, such as holes. The operator approaches these in a similar fashion to the 2D systems, although many 3D systems allow using the wireframe model to make the final engineering drawing views.
The number of companies offering AutoCAD drafting services in India is growing steadily in India . India is seen as a hot destination for outsourcing CAD drafting because of the growing cost of such services in the West, and a huge shortage of talent. The availability of a huge talent pool in India , and its significantly lower costs, make outsourcing a very attractive proposition.
One Indian company that has made the most of the outsourcing opportunity is AABSyS, which provides 2D and 3D CAD design and drafting services. Its areas of activity include electrical, mechanical, electronic, architectural and structural CAD drafting.
